Advanced burn wound healing: Artificial Hair Regeneration
The Association of Dutch Burn Centres (ADBC) aims to improve the treatment of burn patients and to implement results from laboratory research in the clinic. The Burn Research Lab of the ADBC focuses on control of micro-organisms, reduction of inflammation and scar formation, and the development of skin substitutes (artificial skin) and hair-regeneration. For our research projects we collaborate with various universities, such as at Amsterdam-UMC. For a project on advanced skin tissue engineering, we are currently looking for an enthusiastic
Postdoc Tissue Engineering
The purpose of this research is to create hair-bearing skin constructs, with the aim of developing new strategies to improve wound healing and scar outcome. A hair-bearing skin construct will enhance function, aesthetics and recovery, improving patients’ quality of life and self-esteem, while also improving wound healing and limiting scarring. This technology also provides a tool for increasing our understanding of hair regeneration. The project is titled “Engineered Hair-Bearing Models for Advanced Hair Regeneration Studies” and is funded by Health~Holland and the Dutch Burns Foundation. The project is a collaboration between the ADBC in Beverwijk, the Hair Science Institute in Amsterdam, and Ourobionics in Wageningen and will end in March 2028. The laboratory research will be done in the Burn Research Lab of ADBC in Beverwijk.
Objective:
To create hair-bearing skin constructs.
Tasks
You will determine necessary conditions for hair regeneration, apply hair follicle stem cells in skin constructs and subsequently explore the generation of hair-bearing skin constructs using 3D bioprinting. To achieve this, you will design and perform various cell and tissue culture experiments. You will analyze data, using statistical analysis methods and processing them into scientific publications. You will present your work at national and international conferences.
Job requirements
You have completed academic training in a biological/biomedical field. Experience with cell culture, immunohistochemical techniques, programming in R or bioprinting is an advantage. You have good social skills and are able to perform research independently. You have evident experience with quantitative research, data analysis, and writing scientific articles. You are able to work independently and meticulously and to develop initiatives. You are curious and have good speaking and writing skills in Dutch and English. You are prepared to give presentations in Dutch and English and you have sufficient knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint software.
The Burn Research Lab
Our lab is a small but strong team. Our research aims to make a big difference — improving burn care and quality of life for burn patients. With access to advanced techniques and facilities, our lab offers the opportunity to explore a wide range of research questions. In addition, our close collaboration with the three burn centers in the Netherlands provides a truly multidisciplinary and dynamic environment, where clinical and scientific expertise come together to drive meaningful innovation.
